Knowledge
Lung cancer is a major health concern worldwide, causing about 1.8 million deaths each year [1]. It is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally, with the highest mortality rates among both men and women.
Smoking is the primary cause of lung cancer, responsible for about 85% of all cases [1]. This cancer is prevalent among men in developing countries. In Vietnam, lung cancer has been the second most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths since 2012, with around 26,262 new cases and 23,797 deaths in 2020 [2].
One of the biggest challenges with lung cancer is its tendency to remain symptomless in the early stages. Symptoms usually appear only when the disease is advanced, making early detection and awareness even more critical.
Therefore, on August 1st, World Lung Cancer Day is celebrated to raise awareness and educate people about lung cancer.
